Image Generator

July 10, 2008 · 1 Comment

After spending loads of time mucking around with many different types of Image Generators, I tried to figure out how to import my finished product onto my blog. I copied the HTML code but that’s all I got when I pasted it in. Any ideas anyone?

Library Thing

July 10, 2008 · No Comments

I explored Library Thing and recorded 9 titles that I have read recently that either I or my husband Luke enjoyed.  I made comments about the books and hope that others will be able to use my recommendations for their further reading. Please check out my Library Thing site.

Library Thing could be a useful link to the school’s library page.  Students could add titles of books they read and what they thought of them for others to see.  Currently, there is a folder of recommendations that students in year 7 have written.  Library Thing would be a simpler and quicker way for opinions of students to be recorded and read.

I want to create some links to outside websites that are attached to my blog.  I think this is the way to do it.

Adding Flickr

July 9, 2008 · No Comments

Now that I have mastered Flickr, I can happily say that I think it adds a lot to my blog to be able to add pictures to enhance my words.  I think it would make a blog for our school library better having pictures that could be updated regularly to keep the blog current and fresh.  Perhaps you don’t need Flickr for that but I had a look on Flickr for libraries that have Flickr accounts which could then be made into a widget that appears on our blog.

Skiing at Mt Buller July 08

July 8, 2008 · No Comments

We had a short four day holiday at Mt Buller these school holidays and we really enjoyed ourselves. About 15cm of snow fell on the Monday  and we went up on Tuesday.  It was beautiful to see all that snow on the the trees and the possibility of lots more to come.  We moved into the lodge and played lots of games of pool and table tennis when we weren’t out on the slopes.

Jackie and Hannah were as keen as anything to get out onto the slopes even though only Blue Bullet and Holden Express were running.  Luckily the lift tickets were half price!  They had a great time and Hannah really got her skiing legs.  By the second day she was keeping up even with her mother!!

On Friday, the sun came out and it was gorgeous.  We decided not to ski that day and just enjoyed the village and the pancakes we had for morning tea!

Can’t wait to go back when more or all of the lifts are running.

First attempt at Flickr plus recent success

May 29, 2008 · No Comments

\"The chook palace\"QueenieI have a Flickr account and want to add some more photos to my blog. I will try by clicking on the tree icon above and seeing if I can do it this way.

I tried but was unsuccessful so I am going to read and listen to the video tutorial about adding pictures and video to a blog.

Since listening to the tutorial, I have successfully added pictures of the palace and my skiing trip pictures as well.  I feel fantastic that something positive has been achieved!

Keeping chooks in the backyard

May 7, 2008 · 2 Comments

We love gardening and so does our neighbour so we decided to collaborate and set up a communal vegie garden in our backyard.  Di has the get up and go attitude and we have the space with lovely sunshine just perfect for three large beds of vegetables.  My husband is the drip watering system guru and I love pottering in the garden beds planting out seedlings and pulling out weeds and collecting the harvest.

Our pet chook, Doll Face loves picking the spinach leaves and snacking on the silverbeet so we had to find a solution to keeping her free range while saving the green vegies for us.  Lots of ideas cropped up such as a whimsical wrought iron (highly expensive - but wouldn’t it look great!) fence, picket fence and Federation style wire fence.  In the meantime, we’ve settled for left over lattice pieces tied together around one bed and bright green shadecloth around the second bed.  The third bed is ready for planting - all covered with peastraw.  It’s not a great look but in the meantime - it’s working.

Our new chook is a young girl called Queenie.  She arrived on Mothers’ Day morning and is 10 weeks old.  Queenie has a beautiful voice, peeping and chirping like a little bird rather than the usual chook’s mutterings.  Our daughter loves to pick her up and wrap her in an old towel and cuddle her in front of the tv to get her used to being handled.  She is a little quick to run around in the pen at the moment so we want her to get used to being picked up and hand fed on occassions.  Queenie is black with gorgeous silver legs and should grow up to be a real stunner.

The chook house has been worked on all weekend - even Mothers’ Day.  Luke is a handy gadget and has impressed even himself with his handywork.
